I have data accessing problem with my 16GB SD card. I remember there is still about 3GB of free space left on this SD card. But, when using it on laptop after recording some new videos, it shows there is 0 bytes left. The file system type also becomes RAW. When trying to access any video inside, a pop-up window will also arrive and say: “You need to format this disk in drive G. Do you want to format it now?” As I try to format it in Disk Management, the computer shows that it cannot complete the format process. It seems it has been damaged. But, why is it still recognizable on my laptop? Please, give me a solution to restore SD card file system and also inside photos. Thank you!
The damaged SD card also can be recognized by a computer or laptop. So, you cannot guess such things without enough evidence or knowledge. In fact, comparing to a completely mechanically damaged SD card, a logically damaged SD card always has much more possibilities to be repaired and inside data still has more chances to be restored. Therefore, just pray that your card situation is not too serious and try to restore your SD card data with RAW SD card recovery software. Let’s check together whether all SD card data is still recoverable:
Plunge this RAW SD card and download this data software. Open this tool and pick out a file type to restore.
Select recovery options in the main interface
Hit this deleted SD card to scan. Don’t be rash, if it takes a long time to scan.
Select card to search photos off card
Go through all scanned files and label the recoverable ones.
Wait while scanning lost photos, sometimes it takes about 20 minutes to scan a 32G card.
Tips: if it takes more than 2 hours to scan a 32GB card, you may stop the scanning and wait to see
what's already found. Since the card may contains bad blocks that takes longer time than usual.
Proceed to restore your RAW SD card data.
Preview lost photos and save found files. It would generate a folder to contain your lost data.
Please do not save the photo to the card where you lost them. Save them to your PC drive!
*Never risk your RAW SD card data with anything new on the same card.
*Never put this restored data on the same SD card after data recovery.
*Never save important data on this SD card only in the future.
No matter this RAW SD card is damaged or not, format this card from RAW file system back to FAT32. With the previous FAT32 file system, this SD card can be used on your laptop again. Of course, before the formatting process, you’d better check the format file system type carefully. Otherwise, you may mistakenly format your SD card to NTFS file system, not your wanted FAT32. But, unfortunately, if the formatting process still cannot be completed, your drive must be seriously damaged. You’d better replace it as soon as possible.
Have some questions about mechanically damaged SD card? Don’t know exactly what that means? OK! The mechanically damaged SD card is often compared with the logically damaged SD card. The physically damaged SD card talks about a SD card with serious physical problems, such as bad sectors, bended or burned card, broken card, etc. It is generally irreparable and the data inside is also irrecoverable. However, oppositely, the logically damaged SD card talks about a SD card with some logical problems, such as a RAW file system problem, virus infection, card not formatted error and more. It is often irreparable and inner data is also recoverable.
